Pastor Seun Opadare ministered to us on the theme for the month which is “An Extravagant, Sacrificial Love” at our Network Service.

Pastor Seun Opadare said he will be looking at the topic from the point of view “Living a Sacrificial Life for the Love of God and Man” and text is from Matthew 22: 37 – 40 KJV

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

What is Love?

Love is 1 Corinthians 13: 1 – end KJV –

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Paul is saying you can still be mightily doing miracles, giving out gifts, etc but not have love or not love motivated. Today in our Nation, the day to day slogan is what is in it for me – that’s not love motivated. We need to demonstrate the love of God to people (others) and not give up on people easily.

Facts about Love:

As far is Love is concern God is the only one that qualifies the word Love, because God is Love and vice versa. Let’s not love in words but in actions. It is a doing word so loving someone must go along with an action. Our heart must be connected to the things we are doing before we (you and I) can say we really love others. Love makes us vulnerable – don’t be offended if after showing love to others with a true heart, you were been hurt it happens to our Lord Jesus Christ but I pray the Lord will heal the hurt. As human being we have the propensity not to do so? But God instituted it as a command to us.

Sacrificial Love is the act of giving out something that is valuable to you in order to help someone else. What is valuable o you? Jesus Christ was valuable to God but He gave him up for us all as a sacrifice. The life we have been called to live as a Christian is sacrificially living for others and we must constantly love ourselves.  No matter what the world is saying is what’s in it for me but we must not compromise and love ourselves as god commanded us.

Constantly giving up on enjoyment – secluded for trainings, sacrificially giving to enduring for the joy ahead, sowing as a seed, constantly sacrificing for others, constantly battle ready, etc.

Motivations for the Sacrificial Love:-

Good to see in others:- thats why we wake up every morning to go to work, see our family members in good health and well. What do we place values on? We should be willing to sacrifice for our Nation and our lives. You and I should not eat up our tomorrow. We have been giving opportunities and what are we doing about it, brethren? We must sow the seed now for tommorrow’s glory. What seed are we sowing? Because there is a reward in this life and the life to come that’s why the bible says your labour of love will be greatly rewarded.

What seed of prayers are you sowing down for your family, your Nation, business, your lives, etc, it must be rewarded. Don’t give up on it because the seeds you are sowing now will not be a waste.

Cost attached to Sacrificial Love:-

Enjoyment – Daniel who lasted Four Kings

Time – this will be giving up for loving others.

Labour – David – labouring in prayers, sowing the seed, Giving, etc

What is this service for God, love for God, love for man costing you brethren? Our challenge is not knowing the Word of God but it is in not having. You and I must give out of what we have. Because of hurt, we have given up on people and turn our heart from loving others. You and I must first love yourself before you love others. We need the energy to love others but you and I must first love, forgive yourselves. Then, sacrificially love the others.

A book was recommended to us by Pastor Seun Opadare on “The 5 Love Languages by Gary” to be read and understand more of what love is not only to the married but also to understand the word LOVE who is also GOD. Understand the love language of God and of man. Affirm the person of God – He is Lord of Lords and the Almighty etc, God is ever feeding us and ever working on our behalf. You and I must give an act of service to others, do good to others, bless others – giving lift, showng love, etc, what act of service are you giving to yourself – reading a book, trainings, etc because you are also valuable to God to act lovingly to others. It is time we begin to develop ourselves and be valuable for God and to others.

We are an extension of God’s hands – so you and I must touch somebody, be a blessing to do miracles to others, be a blessing to yourself as well – treat your body well, eat right and drink well, exercise, hug yourself, motivate yourself. Give quality time to God in His presence – God ask for one-tenth of your money and one-seventh of your time so as to recuperate, to be filled up, to be renewed, to be refreshed so that you and I won’t run on empty tanks. We must cultivate God’s presence anytime, anywhere, rest, sleep. Give quality time to your family, friends, listen to others, confess your sins one to one another, spend time with our aged parents, check up on them.

When was the last time you and I spent quality time with ourselves? Do act of meditation? …Joshua 1: 8 KJV 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Spend quality time with yourself, be left alone like Jacob did – alone with God. Not in the company of people or others – be alone with God for that idea God has deposited in you to blossom. Stop and spend quality time with yourself and with God.

Ways in which God blesses us:-

Instructions – obey instructions

Opportunities – prepare and make use of every opportunities

Be God’s mouth, hands, smile, eyes, etc  to touch someone and be a blessing.
